Description
BAGHDAD, IRAQ - NOVEMBER 17: Workers sweep up the huge interior courtyard of the Children's Memorial School November 17, 2007 in the Dora neighborhood of Baghdad, Iraq. The Children's Memorial School was set up in the late 1980s by Saddam Hussein's government to commemorate the deaths of dozens of Baghdad schoolchildren who were killed by an Iranian missle in an incident during the Iran-Iraq war. It has been closed for months after being severely damaged in fighting between insurgents and US forces, but is being repaired with American money and is slated to reopen in the next few months. Dora, a Sunni enclave and once one of Baghdad's most violent neighborhoods for US troops, has been calm recently as US Forces have helped form local Sunni armed groups as part of a neighborhood security force.
