Artist's Description

(Original Caption) 3/1921: Ty Cobb, one of baseball's greatest base runners, died July 17, 1961 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Cobb, who was 74 years old, is shown (in this 1921 file photo) reaching for a catch during a workout with the Detroit Tigers, for whom he played 22 years of baseball. During his 24 years in major league baseball, he compiled a lifetime batting average of .367.
