Description
(Original Caption) 10/30/1914-Constantinople, Turkey- Although Turkey today is a friend of England and France, such was not the case in 1914. Turkey started hostilities by sinking one of the Czar's ships and by October 30th a state of war existed between the two countries. In 1914, the city of Istanbul was known as Constantinople. The soldiery here are wearing fezzes, which have since been outmoded.
