Description
This section of Siberia was struck by falling meteor pieces on July 30, 1908 in what was called the Tunguska event. The meteor exploded upon entering the atmosphere, and 200 pieces fell and were buried in the moor shown. The energy of the explosion was powerful enough to knock over roughly 80 million trees over a 830 sqaure mile area. A Russian expedition went to investigate the scene and record the effects the strike had on the land.
