UNITED STATES - NOVEMBER 06: Today all that remains of the once-croweded area is the bridge and the tenement. A vacant lot and some rotted pilings are the only traces of the ferry house, tore down about 1924. Fire boat station has replaced the EL, razed in 1940 after 60 years of service, and wonder of wonders, there's plenty of parking space. Over the river, new skyscrapers domininate Manhattan scene.
