Artist's Description

(Original Caption) 4/1912- Southampton, England- Incorporating all the latest ideas in shipbuilding and unmatched for splendor by any other ship afloat, the British luxury liner Titanic is indeed a proud monarch of the sea as she glides through Southampton, England, harbor to begin her ill-fated maiden voyage. A few days later, on April 15, 1912, the $7.5 milion vessel sank after striking an iceberg in the north Atlantic. The tragic disaster claimed 1,517 lives. There were 711 survivors.
