Thomas Hudson, Remarkable for his Misfortunes', 1821. Portrait of the beggar Thomas Hudson, 'an unfortunate'. Hudson (died 1767) supposedly invested and lost his entire fortune in the disastrous 'South Sea Bubble', a fraudulent scheme of 1720, and subsequently lost his beloved wife.
