British portrait painter Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) promoted the ?Grand Style? in painting, and was a founder and first president of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. He held the position of Principal Painter in Ordinary to the king. His work is held in galleries and museums around the world.
