Artist's Description

The Three Graces', 1773, (circa 1912). 'Three Ladies adorning a Term of Hymen', painting in the Tate Gallery, London. The Graces are the daughters of Sir W Montgomery: 'the Hon Mrs Beresford on the left, Hon Mrs Gardener, mother of Lord Blessington (centre), and the Marchioness Townsend on the right'. British portrait painter Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) promoted the ?Grand Style? in painting, and was a founder and first president of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. He held the position of Principal Painter in Ordinary to the king. His work is held in galleries and museums around the world. Illustration from Reynolds - Masterpieces in Colour, by Samuel Levy Bensusan. [TC & EC Jack, Frederick A Stokes Co, London & New York, circa 1912]. Artist Sir Joshua Reynolds.
