'The Ghost of Napoleon on St Helena', c1825. Allegorical print of Napoleon's tomb on St Helena, with the figure of Napoleon watching as a laurel wreath is laid on the stone. Napoleon Bonaparte (Napoleon I) (1769-1821), Emperor of France 1804-1815. After his defeat at Waterloo in 1815 and his subsequent surrender to the British, he was exiled to the island of St Helena where he died and was buried.
