A rescue worker, dressed in a diving suit, leaps into the Chicago River at the site of the Eastland disaster, July 24, 1915. The passenger ship SS Eastland, preparing for a tour, rolled over while docked on the Chicago River. Although the tragedy claimed 844 lives, heroic efforts saved 280 people.
