The 'amphitheatre' of the Villa Pamphili, Rome, Italy, 1670, (1903). 'L'Amphithéatre De La Villa Pamphili'. View of the grounds. In 1644 Cardinal Giambattista Pamphili was elected as pope, taking on the name Innocent X, and the previous small villa was extensively remodelled for him by Alessandro Algardi (1598-1654).
