Sweet Girl-Graduates...'Afternoon Tea Versus Wine', 1872. The ladies, all of whom look very studious, drink tea, whilst the men would prefer a beer. A man leaning on the piano stares into space. It was only comparatively recently that young women had been able to attend universities and, in this cartoon, Punch takes a satirical look at the difference in celebration between men and women.
