Aerial photo showing mixed plantation areas of sugar cane and palm oil, in North Sumatra province whilst flying from Banda Aceh to Medan, Sumatra Island, Indonesia. Extensive plantation areas have been carved out of the Sumatran rain-forest to stimulate much needed development in these populated areas of Indonesia. The extent of the deforestation on Sumatra island is of concern to environmentalists.
