(Original Caption) A Visit to Tuskegee Institute. Tuskegee, Alabama: On Sunday, April 7, Booker T. Washington, an ex-slave who founded Tuskegee Institute in 1881, becomes the first Negro to be honored on a United States postage stamp. On the first day of issue, Postmaster General James A. Farley will sell the first Booker T. Washington stamp at the Tuskegee Institute post office, situated on the campus of "the most famous Negro educational institution in the world." Later, Farley will make the founder's day address during the final ceremonies of the stamp celebration. The camera takes us on a visit to Tuskegee Electrical System['s] modern hospital (Negro doctors and nurses), besides having its own US Post Office on the campus. Its administration is entirely Negro.
