(Original Caption) 9/19/1949-St,Louis, MO: In violent action here you see Mr. Stanley "The Man" Musial sparkplug and mainspring of the St. Louis Cardinals, whose murderous "Big Stick" has belaboured all opposition to put the Red Birds in the favorite spot in the National League pennant race. Musial made a slow start, but now has his batting average above .330. Brooklyn pitching is one of his favorite dishes. He has hit it for about .500. He will have a chance to hit it some more when the Dodgers and Cards open their crucial series at St. Louis.
