Description
Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850), British Conservative statesman, 1893. Peel twice served as Prime Minister from 10 December 1834 to 8 April 1835, and again from 30 August 1841 to 29 June 1846. As Home Secretary, Peel reformed the criminal law, and created the modern police force. This led to a new type of officer known as bobbies (in England) and peelers (in Ireland).
