Artist's Description

(Original Caption) Seminole wedding a picturesque occasion. The first public wedding of Seminole Indians was recently witnessed by three thousand winter vacationists at Miami, Fla., where tow natives of the Seminole settlement of Musa Isla, near Miami were united according to the rites of the tribe. The ceremonies begin with a procession headed by the groom, followed in turn by the bride, the tribe chief who performs the ceremony and then the rest of the members of the tribe. All costumed in the picturesque varied colored garments so individual of the Seminoles. Here is shown the performance of the ceremony, the bride and groom standing before the tribal chieftain who speaks the words: "You take each other for man and wife forever." There are no divorces among the Seminoles.
