Description
Sack of Puerto Principe, Hispaniola, by Captain Morgan, 1667 (c1880). Born in Wales, Henry Morgan (1635-1688) was a notorious pirate and buccaneer who, with the tacit support of the English government, harried and plundered Spain's Caribbean colonies. In 1667 his soldiers sacked the Spanish settlement of Puerto Principe, today the site of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. From the History of the Buccaneers. A print from Cassell's History of the United States, by Edmund Ollier, Volume I, Cassell Petter and Galpin, London, c1880. (Photo by The Print Collector/Print Collector/Getty Images)
