Artist's Description

Peter Husak of Pittsburgh, PA has his own solution as far as his domestic coal problem goes. He is digging out stray lumps of coal from the empty supply dump at the Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation on the North Side. This stray coal is of no use to the plant but is enough for the use of nearby residents who, like Husak, load up coaster wagons, bushel baskets, and bags. (Photo by Bettmann Archive/Getty Images)
