Artist's Description

Rescue of the Countess De Burgh, from Montgomery Castle', 1836. Elizabeth de Burgh (circa 1289-1327) was the second wife and queen consort of King Robert I of Scotland. She was captured and imprisoned for eight years by the English, being held at various places including Windsor and Rochester Castles.
