(Original Caption) The first night's contest in the Charleston Championship of the United States held in the Trianon Ballroom, Chicago, February 8th, was devoted to selecting the winners of the four different groups, namely north, south, east and west, into which the entries from thirty cities were classified. Miss Memphis, Miss Wichita, Miss Pittsburgh, and Miss Chicago carried off the honors in their respective divisions by their adept exhibitions of the intricate steps of the Charleston dance craze. A national champion was selected from the sectional champs who are shown here left to right: Miss Memphis, Miss Wichita, Tom Sheehy of the Chicago Dancing Masters Association, Miss Pittsburgh, and Miss Chicago with their Charleston awards.
