(Original Caption) 3/23/1867-Harpers Weekly Magazine article in which illustrations of political cartoons satirize the difficult era of Reconstruction. The Black Codes and the biased murder trials, hangings and lynchings and shootings involving blacks and whites were highlighted. Lady Justice is depicted as a gorgon-like medussa who dispenses justice unfairly on the side of the Southern faction.
