Description
(Original Caption) Thousands of New Yorkers, on an appeal by Mayor William O'Dwyer and Health Commissioner Weinstein, have come to city hospitals and health stations for vaccination against smallpox. New York officials driving to stem any possible outbreak of an epidemic have asked all those who have not been vaccinated against this dread disease for the past seven to ten years, to please do so. Free vaccinations will be given, starting Wednesday, at all city hospitals, health stations, city police stations and at the Department of Health. In a recent outbreak of smallpox in the city, two persons have died and seven cases have been reported. It is the first outbreak of this disease in New York City since 1939. Pictured here is the huge crowd which formed two lines at the Morrisania Hospital in the Bronx this morning for their vaccinations.
