Description
Penelope and her loom, 1886. In Ancient Greek legend Penelope was the wife of Ulysses (Odysseus), mother of Telemachus, and an example of domestic virtue. When besieged by suitors during the long absence of Ulysses, she promised them a decision when her piece of work was complete. She wove all day, and sat up with her ladies overnight undoing her day's work. (Photo by Ann Ronan Pictures/Print Collector/Getty Images)
