A young palm oil plantation recently carved out of the New Guinea rain-forest south of Jayapura, Papua province, Indonesia. The boundary of the land clearing for the palm oil plantation can be seen abutting pristine rain-forest. Environmental issues are to the fore in eastern Indonesia as rain-forest land is cleared for rapidly expanding commercial developments such as palm oil plantations.
