UNITED STATES - OCTOBER 07: Of Mize and Amen!, They call him The Big Cat and last night, over glasses of bitter-tasting brew, the good burghers of Brooklyn were still talking of his sharp claws. They were speaking of Large Jawn Mize, the ex-National Leaguer, who returned to familar precincts yesterday to shove defeat down the throats of the Brooklyn Dodgers when he singled with the bases loaded in the 9th. It took a subsequent single by Yanks' Coleman to drive in what proved to be the winning marker in the 4-3 contest, but Big John's poke was the one that shattered a pitching duel and drove Ralph Branca from mound.
