(Original Caption) America's miracle in housing - largest, most complete, low-cost development is Levittown, which has sprung up from potato farmland on the outskirts of suburban Long Island during the past two years. By the end of this year builders Levitt and Sons will have completed 10,000 houses, all of which are being sold for about $8,000. Carrying charges, including taxes, water, insurance, interest, and repayment of mortgages are $58 a month, and the down payment is a mere $90 in cash. [...] Situated a few miles north of New York's Jones Beach, the development is not only a group of houses, it is also an entire town, with miles of concrete roads, several shopping centers, schools, swimming pools, churches of all faiths, bowling alleys and beautiful parks. All these were built by the Levitts to go with their dream community.
