(Original Caption) Accused "Mad Bomber" Booked. Waterbury, Conn.: Flashing a hearty smile, 53-year-old George Metesky (wearing glasses) is surrounded by police as he is booked at the Waterbury Police Station here, after reportedly confessing that he is the "Mad Bomber" who has planted 31 home made bombs in New York City during the last 16 years. Metesky is a toolmaker and is said to have calmly confessed to planting the explosive devices to gain revenge against the Consolidated Edison Company for a 1931 plant accident which he said has made him a semi-invalid for the last 25 years. Flanking Metesky are detective Mike Lynch (left), of the New York City Police Department, and Waterbury Police Capt. Ernest Pakul (right).
