(Original Caption) 1883- The costume worn by Mrs. Frederic Neilson might be that of a circus rider or what have you. Yet it was considered very gorgeous then, and you need not laugh at it, for your mother or grandmother wore something very muck like it. The close-fitting bodice was heavily embroidered in gems. She wore this costume to the William and Alva Vanderbilt costume ball.
