Description
(Original Caption) Lost and Found. Detroit: At the Detroit Institute of Arts, this section of Diego Rivera's famous Detroit Industry fresco represents production and manufacture of the 1932 Ford V-8 motor at the Rough plant. The Institute commissioned the work in 1932 and Henry Ford's son, Edsel, paid the $25,000 bill. Auto industry executives objected to the fresco because it depicted life in the auto plant as being less than pleasant. Others objected because Rivera was not an American and because he was an avowed Communist.
