(Original Caption) Prime Minister Maurice Bishop, shown here with Cuban Premier Fidel Castro at a celebration in Havana July, 1983, was shot and killed by government soldiers October 19, Grenada's military commander said. The commander said that Bishop was killed when he tried to hand out weapons to a crowd of 3,000 supporters shortly after they freed him from house arrest.
