Something, or someone, disturbed the ducks near the shore at Santee Lakes, and they all took off and spooked the heron. He was so irate. He flew about thirty feet and landed on the roof of a boathouse and protested loudly for a long time. An impressive display of outrage. I took about five pictures of him flying, and in all of them his beak is wide open, screeching the entire way. Santee Lakes, as I've learned from local nature photographer Steve Cirone is a marvelous place to take bird photographs. I live nearby, and only used to go there for infrared photography. Like all photographs it looks best large.
