(Original Caption) 3/23/1956-Montgomery, AL: Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., 27, is shown with his wife as they emerge from court house following the conclusion of his trial on charges of conspiring to boycott segregated city buses. He was found guilty and ordered to pay $1,000 in fines and costs or serve 365 days at hard labor. King immediately appealed to the Alabama Circuit Court of Appeals and the execution of the sentence was held in Abeyance pending the appeal.
