Description
(Original Caption) New mine rescue apparatus...The government has set a new rigid standard as to mine-rescue apparatus to be used. Hitherto mine owners could please themselves which they adopted. After searching test at Doncaster, the Meco-Briggs apparatus has been one of the two selected. The nose-bag is done away with in the new type. The cylinder contains sufficient oxygen to last 2-1/2 hours. The air breathed out passes through a bag containing caustic soda where it is purified and returned in to the mouth-feed pipe. Replenished with oxygen it is breathed over again. Photo shows the Meco-Briggs apparatus.
