17th October 1953: A night porter outside a Glasgow hotel. Glasgow has a large and growing population; about 40,000 people have moved to the area in the previous 10 years to take advantage of employment opportunities in various industries. The city also has an impressive art gallery at Kelvingrove and an ambitious housing programme including plans to relocate residents living in slum areas.
