(Original Caption) 6/13/1944-Boston, MA: Lt. John F. Kennedy, right, is congratulated by Capt. F.L. Conklin after being decorated for gallantry in action in the South Pacific. Lt. Kennedy received the Navy Marine Corps Medal. His PT boat was rammed and cut in two by a Japanese destroyer. He showed disregard for his personal safety by swimming in shark-infested waters to save members of his crew. UPI
