(Original Caption) 08/21/1945-Manila, Philippines: Japanese prisoners in Manila appear stunned as news of Japan's surrender is read to them by an interpreter with the 38th Division on Luzon (right). One Japanese prisoner (2nd from left) answers stiffly when the interpreter asks him his opinion of the surrender offer. The prisoner later grinned when the interpreter mentioned that he would soon be going home.
