Artist's Description

(Original Caption) College Park, Maryland: American Helicopter Completes First Official Flight. The American helicopter, perfected by Emile Berliner, the noted inventor, and his son, Henry A. Berliner, in course of its first official flight before members of the Naval Air Board at College Park, Md. The helicopter has been in operation for two months and is in the early stages of absolute perfection. It has risen straight into the air, more than ten feet in some cases, and has a tilting propeller which drives it forward after the rise.
