Artist's Description

(Original Caption) Jackson, California: Hydraulic mining resumed. Hydraulic mining on a large scale resumed in Jackson, California. In the early eighties hydraulic mining was stopped by state laws for the river became filled with mud and rocks. The mud and rocks are now held in large dams being built for this purpose. Huge giants are used to wash the sides of mountains. Sluice boxes are used to catch the gold. The present hydraulic giants will practically wash away the old mining towns, which lay within their path of operations.
