(Original Caption) Every dog has his day, and the hounds of Baron James de Rothschild had theirs recently in a colorful deer chase through the forests of Compiegne, France. The forest, scene of noisy warfare in the past, rang to the merry din of the hunter's horn and the joyful yelp of the hounds as a stag was turned loose for the hunt on St. Hubert's Day, in honor of the patron saint of hunting. Armed with a camera, United Press staff photographer Stephane Tavoularis followed the hunt from the blessing of the hounds, before the release of the stag, to the sounding of "Hallali," signaling its capture at sunset. This photo shows "Hallali!" The hunter's horn signals the dogs have the stag at bay, ready for the kill.
