(Original Caption) Thousands mill around the New York Stock Exchange when the worst break in the history of the exchange occurred on October 24th. Wild scenes of disorder took place outside of the exchange as thousands of customers from the brokerage houses in the vicinity milled about in an effort to gain entrance. It was necessary to call out the police to dispel the crowds. J. P. Morgan, Charles Mitchell, and other prominent bankers met in a conference in an attempt to stop the crash.
