Description
Hot Pies!, 1879. A group of politicians are devouring pies representing countries. Lord Lytton, the viceroy of India, dressed as a waiter, brings another pie, to which Disraeli ('Master Benjamin'), seated at far right, replies: 'Thank you, no more at present! We've quite as much as we can manage, thank you!'. The new king of Burma was believed to be considering war against British subjects in lower Burma and the British military in India had to send reinforcements. With their troubles in Turkey, Afghanistan and other areas, the British government did not want another 'pie' to have to deal with. From Punch, or the London Charivari, April 5, 1879.
