Holland's Raid on the Thames' (c1668), from 'Old Naval Prints,' by Charles N Robinson & Geoffrey Holme (The Studio Limited, London), 1924. The Raid on the Medway was a successful Dutch attack on the largest English naval ships, which were laid up in the dockyards of Chatham in June 1667 during the Second Anglo-Dutch War. The Dutch, commanded by Admiral Michiel de Ruyter, also bombarded and captured Sheerness and sailed up the Thames as far as Gravesend. (Photo by Print Collector/Getty Images)
