(Original Caption) The fateful day on which Harry Truman first took oath as President of the United States wrought great changes in Margaret's life. No longer able to live quietly in the background of Washington society, Margaret moved into the White House and became a public figure. Her picture, as she solemnly witnessed her father's inauguration, was printed in newspapers and magazines throughout the world.
