(Original Caption) 6/28/1952-Olympia, Greece- Young Greek girls, dressed in appropriate Ancient Greek costumes, light the Olympic torch. The flame is created through the sun rays on the concave mirror (center). The flame is trasferred to a Marble Bowl ( held by the girl on the right). The bowl is then taken to the Olympic altar where it will blaze for the duration of the games. A torch is lit from the altar and relays of runners will carry it to Helsinki to start the 1952 Olympic games.
