(Original Caption) 6/6/1940-Cleveland, OH: Swinging Sammy Snead points to the figures which tell of his sensational opening round in the National Open Golfing Tourney at the Canterbury Country Club. Only 67 strokes for the 18 holes!! A record score for an open opening round. By scoring this sensational round today, Sammy proved that no mental damage had been done by the disastrous last hole in last year's Open at Philadelphia, when he had victory almost in his grasp only to be blown sky high.
