(Original Caption) This photo of General George Armstrong Custer, best known for his famous "last stand," is one of a set of 44 original wet plate negatives by Mathew Brady, famous Civil War photographer, which were recently discovered in Owego, NY, and acquired by the Ansco Division, General Anilie and Film Corporation. Brady made this portrait in Washington, D.C., on plates furnished by the founders of Ansco during the Civil War era. General Custer died in 1876. Seated 3/4 view. Ca. 1870.
