Artist's Description
General Dalzell Entering Edinburgh', July 1666, (c1880). Sir Thomas Dalyell of The Binns, 1st Baronet (1615-1685) was a Scottish Royalist general in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, also known by the soubriquets Bluidy Tam and The Muscovite De'il. In July 1666 he was appointed commander-in-chief in Scotland, with orders to subdue the Covenanters, who he defeated at the Battle of Rullion Green, in the Pentland Hills, south of Edinburgh.
