Artist's Description

Gad's Hill Place, the residence of Charles Dickens, Higham, Kent, late 19th century. Dickens lived at Gad's Hill Place from 1845 until his death in 1870. He had first seen the house as a nine year-old boy and his literary success enabled him to purchase it. From Cassell's Illustrated History of England, Vol IX.
